Drop-in activities at the UBC Learning Exchange

Free Computer Access

Need computer time or a Wi-Fi connection? No problem – the Learning Exchange provides free public access to computers, Wi-Fi and high-speed internet. Each computer has Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and photo editing software. If you have specialty software to install, just ask us and we’ll try to assist.

Need some help? During Drop-in hours staff can offer tips on how to use computers.

Drop-in Arts and Cultural Activities

There’s something for everyone at our free arts and cultural activities programs. Sessions include art workshops and musical events as well as cultural sharing activities such as drum making and salve making. Many activities happen in collaboration with Elders, Knowledge Keepers and community partners, such as the Indigenous Programs at the Carnegie Community Centre, and are designed to explore new social, cultural, or learning connections. Activities change often so check the event calendar for details.

Documentaries and Dialogue

Get ready to sit back and explore! Join us for weekly documentaries on travel, culture, nature, social issues and more. Stay for the discussion after the movie – we’re always interested in a new point of view.

Mahjong Club

Expert players to first-timers – all levels are welcome to play and learn this popular Chinese tile game. Experienced players can teach beginners so everyone can join in. It’s a great chance to socialize and sharpen your skills. Games are conducted in English and all materials are provided. Our event calendar has the details.

Fun (Virtual) Fridays

Get your weekend started early with activities that include crafts, board games and art workshops. Drop-in patrons have enjoyed origami, bracelet-making, creating with clay, bingo and Jeopardy! The selection is always changing – just drop in to the Learning Exchange to find out what’s going on.
