They are on the same day and include lunch. If you plan to join for just one session, we welcome you to stay for lunch before or after, depending on the session you attend. The sessions are designed for for people in and around the Downtown Eastside.
Session 1#: Intro to Canva
The first session of the day will show you step-by-step how to create fun posters and other graphics in Canva, an easy-to-use, free software that is available to anyone online.
Facilitator: Dionne Pelan, Digital Literacy Coordinator, UBC Learning Exchange. Dionne develops, coordinates and delivers educational digital literacy programs for community residents out of the UBC Learning Exchange, and supports community peers, UBC students, and staff at other community organizations to lead digital literacy programs.
Session #2: Intro to ChatGPT
After lunch, there will be a second session, this one exploring Chat GPT and AI (artificial intelligence) to generate art and writing.
What is ChatGPT?
What if you could ask your computer to help you write a letter to your friend? Or write a news story that sounds like it’s from the CBC? With Chat GPT and AI, the possibilities are endless, and perhaps a little discomforting. Come learn more about this brave new world.
Facilitator: Lucas Wright, Senior Educational Consultant, UBC Centre for Teaching and Learning. Lucas supports UBC faculty and staff to integrate technology into their teaching and learning practice. He is an adult learning instructor with more than 15 years of experience teaching.
These sessions are brought to you by the UBC Learning Exchange, the Carnegie Community Centre, and the Downtown Eastside Literacy Roundtable.
