Pot of Hope

The work of the Learning Exchange depends entirely on our collaborative relationships with organizations in the community and other units at UBC. Since 1999 we have built solid relationships with a wide variety of organizations in the Downtown Eastside and surrounding communities.

For us, new understandings and new ideas for change come about when people get together to achieve shared goals. We are not just setting out to share the knowledge we have. We’re working with community residents and organizations to create new connections, new understandings and new experiences that we never could have discovered on our own.

Become a community partner

We are keen to work with partners from the community to generate innovative ideas and develop new initiatives, including ones that build the skills of Downtown Eastside community members while enabling them to contribute to their community.

For instance, we are working to improve computer literacy skills by training people to help absolute beginners learn how to use computers. We are working alongside staff and volunteers in community centers, neighbourhood houses and social housing sites where they have identified that computer skills are needed, however, they lack the resources to respond alone. Together we are raising digital literacy levels.
